Wright-Phillips' red card appeal

The City midfielder was sent off by referee Barry Knight in the 28th minute for a challenge on Everton's Gary Naysmith.

Manager Kevin Keegan believes the dismissal was unnecessarily harsh, "I don't think it was ever a sending-off offence and I have asked the referee to look at it," he said.

"I have been in and talked to him about it. What he has said, was that it was not his decision.

"We have to appeal to the FA and he has to look at it. I don't think any other referee would have sent him off.

"A booking and a penalty was a sensible outcome. Hopefully it will be turned over on appeal."
