Wright-Phillips impresses for England U21's

After losing the last qualifier at home to Portugal, England had no chance of qualifying for the Euro finals, but a further loss will increase calls for a fresh face to come in for the former Forest boss.

The hosts took the lead after just two minutes and England were unable to find an equaliser despite a number of chances.

City's Shaun Wright-Phillips worked tirelessly on the right side for England, although he did spurn one of their best chances when he dragged a right-foot shot wide on 71  minutes. Having said that, Shauny had created the chance himself by breezing past three Turkish defenders after breaking from the halfway line.

Chelsea's Glen Johnson was then dismissed in the closing stages after a second bookable offence.

Joey Barton was suspended after being booked in his first two games at international level against Macedonia and Portugal. Barton was also England's goalscorer in the 2-1 defeat to Portugal at Goodison Park.
