Wright-Phillips back to face Saints

The England under-21 star was used only as a substitute for Tuesday night's Worthington Cup tie with Crewe after a heart-to-heart with City boss Kevin Keegan.

"I told Shaun that whatever happened he would be back for Saturday," said Keegan.

"I just felt I had to pull him out of the Crewe game. I spent ten minutes with him before Tuesday's game explaining the reasons why I did that.

"He came on and gave us a lift. He is a smashing kid to have at your club and there has got to be a place in the side somewhere for him but as a manager you have on occasions to protect players.

"Shaun is still a young man. Like all players of that age, sometimes the picture is clearer than others, but I thought he came on and did really well.

"It may be that the hour he had away from it might be the best thing we have done for him this year."
