Weaver relishing long-awaited rematch

A string of injuries has prevented the 27-year-old playing against the Reds since his solitary derby appearance in November 2000, when David Beckham beat Weaver with a 2nd-minute free-kick.

"People might be surprised but I have played in only one derby and we lost that to a David Beckham free-kick at Maine Road! I can't wait to get another crack at the Reds," he told the City website.

"We have a pretty decent record against them in the Premiership over the past 5 years or so, although it would be nice to get that away win rather than a succession of draws.

"I know United have a rivalry with Liverpool, Arsenal and more recently Chelsea but they know and we know that this is still one of the biggest games of the season for both clubs."
