Transfer Whispers: Arsenal bid for SWP

- An unofficial Arsenal site claims that they’ve made an offer for City's Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The Gunners are interested in Stuttgart midfielder Alexander Hleb but the website, Arsenal-Mania, claims that developments concerning the Belarus international are being held up by a bid for the City winger.

Both play on the right so it seems Arsene Wenger wants to see if City are willing to sell before moving for Hleb. While Arsenal’s bid is considerable, Chelsea are also believed to have made a substantial offer too.

Publicly, Shaun has said he wants to see out the remaining three years of his contract but Arsenal-Mania claims he has indicated to the City board that he wants a move to Arsenal.

- City are believed to have drawn up contingency plans for the potential departures of our most saleable assets, SWP and Sylvain Distin.

Stuart Pearce wants to bring in two forwards and Crouch, the subject of an unsuccessful £5m bid by Liverpool recently, heads his wish-list while he has also made an official inquiry about Everton striker Marcus Bent.

- Pearce is also reported to be keeping tabs on Greek international Angelos Basinas.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who was a key member of Greece's Euro 2004 winning team, is expected to leave Panathinaikos this summer, but Marseille and Portsmouth are also interested.
