Team ethic key for City - Kidd

City produced a composed collective display to beat bottom club West Ham 3-1 at Upton Park which moved Roberto Mancini's men level on points with leaders Arsenal, who play Manchester United on Monday night.

However, the performance which looked to have cast aside criticism over disharmony in the dressing room was overshadowed by news star striker Carlos Tevez has handed in a written transfer request, apparently disillusioned at life under Mancini, with whom he had a touchline bust-up at the end of the win over Bolton at Eastlands. Tevez did not face his former club because of suspension.

"Guys like David Silva and Yaya Toure are class acts, but we always look at the team effort," Kidd said. "The individuals will come through and win you the game, but the big ethic we have got is team work, that is the important thing.

"You have got to be able to play well and win, to play ugly and win, to grind results out to be in contention, and have a bit of luck as well.

"Hopefully we will still be in contention during March and April, because that is what we are aiming at."
