Sven admits surprise at dream start

Despite starting with 6 debutants, with another 2 coming off the bench, the Blues played some great football at Upton Park.

New striker Rolando Bianchi opened his account after just 13 minutes, before sub Geovanni sealed a 2-0 win 3 minutes from time.

Only the most optimistic Blue would have expected the new-look City side to 'click' so soon, and Sven certainly wasn't expecting that in just his 1st competitive game as Blues boss.

"I'm a bit surprised because we had 6 players who have never played in the Premier League before, plus 4 from the Academy, so surprised but very happy," he said. "We started well and controlled the game from the beginning.

"I think that for the first 30 minutes and the last 20 we played brilliant football," Sven added. "We kept the ball and created a lot of chances, so I'm very happy.

"We suffered for a while as well, and they had a few chances after we went ahead, but you need a little bit of luck at times.

"You know you won't control the whole game against any Premier League side, but defensively at those times, we were excellent."
