SUN SUFFERS CHINA CHOP

There were rumours before the game that changes might be made and the Dutch coach has angered Sun Zongliang by not only leaving out his son , but also restricting him to just 13 minutes as a substitute.

Jihai did not have enough time to make an impression as the Chinese had to settle for a disappointing 2-2 draw in Chung-ch'ing, and now Sun Sr believes they will struggle to progress in the Asian Cup.

"Haan is a wood head," he told his hometown's Radio Dalian. "China will become no hopers under his charge."

"I don't mind who can start in a match as long as the team wins but I really think Sun Jihai should start.

"I am not only his father but also his physical training coach. There is no physical problem for him, so if he can start for Manchester City, why can't he start for the national team?"

The news that he would be left out must have been a bitter blow for Jihai, who could put his City future in doubt by staying on international duty when the season kicks-off.

Therefore his father has threatened sending him back to Manchester, adding: "If you don't start him, you'd better let him return to England."
