Stu considers midfield options

Joey Barton must serve a one-game suspension after picking up a fifth yellow card at Fulham, while Trevor Sinclair is still short of match fitness after a midweek reserve game was postponed.

Claudio Reyna is still doubtful, so Pearce is glad for the likes of Sun Jihai and Antoine Sibierski.

"[Sun's versatility] is a help, there's Antoine as well, they are players who can play anywhere across the midfield if they are asked to do so," Pearce told the official City website.

"It certainly helps us out with Joey being suspended, and possibly Claudio being out as well."

City can expect a strong physical challenge from Blackburn but Pearce feels the Blues will be prepared, despite his injury concerns.

"The physical nature of the game is not a problem to me," he added. "They are a good footballing side, they have a manager who's well organised (Mark Hughes) and it will be a tough game for us.

"It's about what we do, we have got to try and maintain the tempo that we have set for home matches, and hopefully that will be good enough to win the game."

Defender David Sommeil is back in contention after taking a nasty blow to the face in the recent home win against Aston Villa and is likely to take a place on the bench, with Sylvain and Dunney keeping their place.

"David Sommeil's back out there with a mask on, so he won't scare the players as much as normal!" joked Pearce.
