Sterling has a regret

Raheem Sterling has admitted regret at the way he left Liverpool for Manchester City earlier this week.

A messy saga ended with the England international completing a £49million switch to the Etihad on Monday.

Relations between Sterling and Liverpool appeared strained after a public contract stand-off and his missing of training through illness, but he claims he left on good terms with those at the club.

He does, though, wish things had ended on a generally better note.

Speaking to Fox Sports, he said: "I was a bit disappointed how I left

That was the main problem I've had with the situation - how I've left it with Liverpool.

"I'm good with everyone at the football club, the manager, the players and I wish them well for the new season.

"But it was really disappointing how it did finish off."

Sterling is now in Australia with City on their pre-season tour and says as soon as he knew the Blues wanted him, he wanted them.

"From the first moment I heard City were interested in me [I wanted to join], purely because of the direction the football club is going in," he added.

"I've met all my team-mates now and it's been a really good few days, they've made me feel welcome and I'm really happy to be here

I think I made the right decision."
