Sergio Aguero's 6 Greatest Moments at Manchester City - Ranked

So, Sergio Aguero is now officially the finest non-English goalscorer the Premier League has ever seen.

Since his arrival in 2011, there have been near-countless incredible moments that have coloured his glittering Premier League career, leading up to this record.

There have been title-winning goals, sublime solo efforts and plenty of deadly finishes, all helping him topple numerous records at Etihad Stadium.

Aguero is a once-in-a-generation footballer. There's no one around who can do what the Argentine does with such wonderful ease, with such impressive frequency.

Here, 90min ranks his six greatest moments since joining the Premier League champions.

6. Lighting Up the Derby

Sergio Aguero

Aguero has had some rather enjoyable times at Old Trafford, with his contribution to City's 6-1 destruction of Manchester United in late 2011 one of his more memorable outings at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, his exquisite match-clinching goal the following season stands as the Argentine's finest hour in the derby, the forward jinking his way through the Red Devils defence to seal a 2-1 victory for the Citizens.

It meant little with regard to the title race as United strolled their way to yet another Premier League triumph, but that virtuoso run and finish restored some pride for the Sky Blues, who bounced back in style the year after.

5. Newcastle Blown Away

Sergio Aguero

During the 2015/16 campaign, Aguero wrote his name into the history books as he became the fifth player to score five goals in a single Premier League match.

With five minutes remaining before the half-time whistle, Newcastle United would have been pleased with their efforts at the Etihad, the Magpies staying resolute to defend a one-goal lead in the north-west.

Aguero's header levelled matters ahead of the interval, but Alan Pardew's recruits did not pay heed to the warning. A deflected strike and an audacious chip from the South American gave City a 3-1 advantage soon after the break, and there was still more to come.

On the edge of the box, he opened up space for himself, before whipping a low shot into the far corner of the net, with the striker's clever movement at the back-post then leaving him with the simplest of tasks to make it 6-1, 20 minutes after he'd grabbed his first of the contest.

4. Instant Impact

Sergio Aguero

In the summer of 2011, City had forked out £38m to lure Aguero away from Atletico Madrid. At the time, the deal represented something of a gamble - now, it looks like the bargain of the century.

Any doubts about the new man's abilities were washed away during his glorious debut versus Swansea City, who didn't know what had hit them.

Aguero got things off to a flyer as he turned in an inch-perfect cross from Micah Richards, though that was just a taster for the Sky Blues faithful.

With the last kick of the game, the 23-year-old raised the roof at the Etihad as he sent a swerving effort far beyond the clutches of Michel Vorm to light the blue touch-paper on his Manchester City career.

3. Hat-Trick Fanatic

Sergio Aguero

Aguero's treble against Aston Villa on 12 January made him the highest-scoring foreigner in Premier League history, with Thierry Henry relegated to second place in the standings.

However, there was another long-standing record that came tumbling down on Sunday. He's now collected 12 top-flight hat-tricks, one more than Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers icon Alan Shearer.

It shouldn't be too surprising to hear seven of those came during the reign of Pep Guardiola, under whom Aguero has won two Premier League titles, as well as three domestic cups.

The pair are a match made in heaven, having worked wonders together since the Catalan's arrival in 2016.

2. Becoming City's Greatest Ever Goalscorer

Sergio Aguero

When City rocked up to Stadio San Paolo in November 2017, every away fan knew Aguero was on the brink of immortality.

His prodigious talents had seen him soar up the club's all-time scoring charts, the hitman drawing level with Eric Brook during the side's 3-0 triumph over Burnley less than a fortnight prior.

Number 178 put him into a league of his own, and it came in fitting fashion against a strong Napoli lineup in the Champions League group stages.

A lighting counterattack saw the Citizens flood upfield, before Aguero carried the ball through on goal, his unerring finish leaving Pepe Reina grasping at thin air.

1. Aguerooooooo!!!

This may well be the single greatest moment in Premier League history, let alone Aguero's career.

You all know the story. You know the pandemonium that erupted inside the Etihad Stadium on the afternoon of May 13 2012. You know how Aguero stole the title away from Manchester United with a goal against QPR that will never be forgotten.

When he retires, City will build a statue in his honour. They will miss him, but so will all of England. It's been a privilege watching the Argentine sensation in action.
