Sean Johnson replaces Zack Steffen on USMNT roster for June window

New York City FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson will replace Zack Steffen on the USMNT 27-player roster for the June international window after the Manchester City stopper withdrew due to family reasons.

Johnson is set to report to training camp in Cincinnati this weekend as the USMNT prepare for four upcoming matches in the June window. The team kicks off hosting Morocco and Uruguay for friendlies, before turning their attention to the Concacaf Nations League matches against Grenada and El Salvador.

The 32-year-old last featured for the U.S. Men’s National team back in 2019, where he made a substitute appearance in the match against Panama. He’s recorded nine overall caps with the American side, and recorded four clean sheets.

At a club level, the player has been a standout for NYCFC. Johnson led the Eastern Conference side to their first-ever MLS Cup appearance, saving two penalties against the Portland Timbers to lift the trophy. The goalkeeper was subsequently named the final’s MVP.

Overall, he’s recorded 181 appearances for New York City FC since joining in 2017 from the Chicago Fire
