Schmeichel set to return

Schmeichel is back in training after missing City's last two Premiership games firstly with a bout of flu and then with a recurrence of a knee injury.

And so, if the big Dane comes through City's training session at the Carrington complex on Friday he will replace Carlo Nash in goal against his former club.

"Peter Schmeichel returned to training on Wednesday and providing he comes through the training session on Friday he will be back in consideration," City boss Kevin Keegan has said.

"Carlo Nash has done nothing wrong. He has waited a long time for his chance, he has trained hard and his performances in the last three games, because he was great at Wigan, have been terrific."

"His confidence is now sky high so we know we have two excellent goalkeepers here and we will also have another one when Nicky Weaver is fit."
