La Liga new boys Real Betis look set to win the race for Manchester City misfit Roque Santa Cruz who is heading to Spain for a medical.

The Manchester City striker has been linked with a number of clubs in England and beyond this summer but the freshly-promoted Seville-based club appear to have won the race for his signing.

Roberto Mancini made it clear the Paraguayan, who has slowly slipped down the pecking order at City since signing from Blackburn in 2009, was not in his plans when he left him out of his 25-man Premier League squad last season.

Santa Cruz returned to Blackburn Rovers on loan but failed to recapture the scoring exploits that earned him a move to City. The ex-Bayern Munich striker s expected to be offloaded by City before the transfer window slams shut with Real Betis apparently his next destination.
