Rodgers was wanted by City

Rodgers joined the Royals after a spell with Watford but his tenure proved to be short and unsuccessful.

However, he was an in-demand man and Man City were keen on acquiring his services to help assist manager Roberto Mancini.

Rodgers was impressed by the club's ambition and plans, although he was pleased he ended up becoming Swansea's manager.

The 38-year-old has backed his gut feeling having guided Swansea into the Premier League for the first-ever time last May.

"After leaving Reading, I got a call asking if I'd be interested in going to City. I met with Brian Marwood and went to Milan to meet Mancini for a few days," he explained.

"There I got a great insight into the club and their incredible project. I think they were looking for a top coach to work with them and Roberto was sounding me out.

"But then the Swansea opportunity came up, David Platt joined City as Mancini's assistant - and it all worked out perfectly for me.

"To know a club of City's standing were keen on me gave my confidence a great boost. But my ambition was always to get back in as a No.1 and I was just thankful and grateful Swansea gave me that.

"The money as a No.2 at Man City would definitely be better but it wasn't about money. I just had a gut feeling about Swansea."
