Relegation form worries Keegan

Last updated : 02 October 2002 By CityMAD
This stark response came after City were beaten at Maine Road for the first time in 24 games by Liverpool.

“It’s alright other managers saying that we are very good team” said Keegan.

“The truth is that this very good team is displaying relegation form at the moment and life will get very tough for us this season if we continue like this.

"My board has spent money trying to catch up with teams like Liverpool but if this club is going to get up there we will have to spend a lot more, either this season or next.

"The board have been great during my time at the Club. They have been very supportive about bringing in new players. But I will find out next January whether the support is still there because we need to strengthen the team.

"We need one or two players with the cleverness to be effective in the Premiership because we didn’t have enough of those qualities against Liverpool.”

"I honestly thought we would have given Liverpool a better game.

"I cannot criticise the effort of my players. But effort without cleverness won’t win the day against the top sides in the Premiership.”
