Predicting Manchester City's Starting XI for Saturday's FA Cup Clash With Port Vale

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City face Port Vale in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium as the Citizens start their bid to defend the trophy they won last season.

City were coined the 'Fourmidables' after winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield in the 2018/19 campaign and, despite falling behind a truly outstanding Liverpool in the league this season, they will be among the favourites to snatch the illustrious FA Cup prize once more.

Here's a look at the XI Guardiola could select for the Citizens' first clash in the competition this season.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Eric Garcia,Diogo Jota

Claudio Bravo (GK) - Arguably one of the best reserve goalkeepers in the Premier League, Bravo is likely to continue to fill in for Ederson, who was suspended against Sheffield United and then ill for the win over Everton.

João Cancelo (RB) - The Portuguese defender has been out of favour to Kyle Walker in the league, but often features in cup matches. Signing from Juventus in the summer, Cancelo offers another dimension in attack and has been unfortunate not to get a run of games thus far.

Eric García (CB) - At just 18, García may not be a player you know much about, but he has a lot of potential. With just over 1,000 minutes under his belt in all competitions this season, Guardiola is likely to offer the youngster a starting spot once more.

Fernandinho (CB) - With the long injury list, particularly in defence, it is likely that the Brazilian will fill in at centre back - just like he often has already this season - and offer his side an outlet from the back, spraying passes left, right and centre.

Angeliño (LB) - Often considered as an option but not first choice, the Spanish defender has been given game time sporadically throughout his first half season back at City. What better way to beef up the statistics than with some minutes against Port Vale, eh?

Midfielders

Phil Foden

Ilkay Gündogan (CM) - With seven yellow cards to his name already this season, you're guaranteed fire and passion from Gündogan. Often used as a rotation option to provide a spark in midfield, it makes sense that he will feature.

Phil Foden (CM) - Described by Pep Guardiola as the most talented player he has ever worked with - poor Lionel Messi - it comes as no surprise that Foden has been given more and more game time as the season has progressed. He is expected to star in this fixture.

David Silva (CM) - He may be approaching the end of his City career, but this man's class will never fade away. With his astonishing vision, it would come as no shock if Silva were to dominate proceedings.

Forwards

Sergio Aguero

Bernardo Silva (RW) - You could definitely be left with worse options on the flank, that's for sure. It's as if the next three, four, sometimes even five phases of play are already in Bernardo's mind before they happen. He's a wizard with the ball at his feet.

Sergio Agüero (ST) - Gulp. Port Vale's back line may be in for one of the toughest nights of their lives. Gabriel Jesus scored twice last time out and it's likely he'll be rested for next week's Carabao Cup meeting with Manchester UnitedAgüero is expected to come in.

Raheem Sterling (LW) - Coming on as a 93rd minute substitute in City's 2-1 win over Everton on New Year's Day, the Englishman will be raring to go as Guardiola is expected to utilise the wide man's pace up against a weaker opposition.
