Phil Foden has admitted that Manchester City could've 'killed' Real Madrid off in first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi final clash.
The England international was instrumental for the Cityzens at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening, scoring a second half goal and helping his side tear Los Blancos' defence limb from limb - particularly in the first 20 minutes.
City did go on to win the game 4-3, but speaking to BT Sport at full-time, Foden admitted that they should have won by more.
"For the fans watching it was a great game, lots of goals. Against a team who have won the Champions League many times, if you give the ball away in dangerous areas they punish us. We know what to do over there," he said.
"A great game and end to end at times. We started really well, could have killed them off, I had a chance and Riyad had a chance. We have to take our chances more."
Foden and Riyad Mahrez both missed glorious opportunities in quick succession at the start of the second half, with the former's shot being cleared off of the line by Dani Carvajal and the latter's cannoning off the post.
On Real Madrid clawing their way back from a two-goal deficit on three occasions, Foden's teammate Bernadro Silva said: "It was frustrating, we were controlling the game so well with possession, not allowing counters. The goal [Karim Benzema's penalty] came out of nowhere, we were unlucky.
"I think the first 20 minutes we were so so good, the way we pressed, controlled the game, the way we created chances. Over 90 minutes we felt we could have won with a better score. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of two-goal differences three times in the game. That's the Champions League, against one of the best teams in the world. It's still 4-3, we've got a one-goal advantage.
"We still won the first game, it's just 90 minutes but was a good game. Our fans should be proud of us, the team should be proud. We could have scored more but that's football. They took their chances, we could have had more."
