England forward Phil Foden will miss the Nations League games against Hungary and Germany with Covid-19.
The Manchester City star had trained as normal with the rest of Gareth Southgate's squad earlier in the week, but was nowhere to be seen on Friday morning at St. George's Park.
It has since been confirmed that 22-year-old Foden has contracted Covid-19, and will miss England's trips to Budapest and Munich.
Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori will also miss out against Hungary, with both players nursing injuries after gruelling domestic seasons in the Premier League and Serie A, but they are expected to play some part in England's other Nations League games.
Following on from their trip to Hungary, the Three Lions head to Germany three days later to take on the four-time World Cup winners. They then face Italy in their first home Nations League game of the 2022/23 competition, before hosting Hungary at Molineux in a return fixture.
The timing of such an extended international break has drawn criticism from some players, with Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne calling the competition 'glorified friendlies' while Netherlands and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk also questioned the need to play so many games.
Some England players will see it as a huge opportunity to impress Southgate though ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar - West Ham's Jarrod Bowen in the camp for the first time after a tremendous 2021/22 campaign.
