Nuno Espirito Santo reveals Harry Kane talks & clarifies pre-season return debacle

Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that he has held talks with Harry Kane after returning to pre-season training.

Kane is keen on joining Manchester City, but Spurs have been adamant that he will remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

Ahead of their meeting with City on Sunday, new Tottenham boss Nuno confirmed that he has at last been able to chat with the striker after a busy summer with England at Euro 2020 and his subsequent holiday.

"Harry joined the group today," Nuno said. "He trained, we had a talk, of course it's a private conversation but everything is ok, he's preparing himself. Like Bryan [Gil], like [Cristian] Romero, players who joined us later we have to be careful, but everything's ok."

Nuno also confirmed that Kane is in contention to feature on Sunday, but a decision will be made after their final training session tomorrow.

There were conflicting reports regarding when Kane was due to return to pre-season training. It was initially believed at the start of last week that the England captain was deliberately missing training in order to force a transfer, before releasing a statement a few days later denying such allegations.

When Nuno was asked to clarify the confusion among fans and media, he said: "That is your confusion, it's not our confusion.

"I think there's no confusion at all. Harry had to submit himself to the protocols of the quarantine, he had to be in isolation, he did it here in the lodge. It was a long period that he had to be by himself - not easy at all. Then he had a negative test and he joined the group."

Nuno was also of the belief that he shouldn't have to worry about players not wanting to be at the club, saying they should be 'proud' to be at Spurs.

"My job is to prepare Tottenham players the best that I can. I don't have any concern on trying to convince players to play for Tottenham because it's such a huge club, such a fantastic club, that we should be proud of being here," he said.
