Rodwell has struggled for fitness since joining City from Everton for £15million, and even when he has been fit he has struggled to force his way into City's star studded line up.
A loan move would have been ideal for all parties but it failed to materialise and Pardew will now have to wait until the end of the season if he wishes to strike a deal.
