He has also been suffering from a calf problem which requires surgery, but City boss Stuart Pearce confirmed that will have to wait until the summer.
"Even if we had just the 1 game left, we'd look to play him if he was fit and available," he said.
"We can't afford to let anyone who might need surgery to up sticks now with 6 games left. Everyone's got to fight and the summer is the time to do bits and pieces like that.
"Didi Hamann and Steve Jordan have rejoined training in the last couple of days after training on their own earlier this week, and Danny Mills' shin problem is still coming along slowly," Pearce added.
