Manuel Pellegrini vows to stick with attacking mentality

City have lacked consistency over the past month with just two wins from six games.

That spell has included a heavy home loss to Liverpool while a surprise defeat at Stoke on Saturday knocked them off the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

But manager Pellegrini, whose attacking philosophy is well known, does not care much for suggestions that his team need to how learn to win when not playing well

He just wants them to play better.

Pellegrini said: "I think we must try to continue winning the most amount of games by playing well

That is why it is more important to be a consistent team and not have this mix of different performances, especially individual performances.

"I repeat, in the way this team play I will not change because I think, in this moment, we are the most successful team here this season

We are always the most scoring team.

"Maybe you can defend better with eight or nine players near our box but it is not the way we play

We have bad games, as every team do, but we must continue not to change the style and try not to make so many mistakes."

Pellegrini will hope to see an instant return to form as they host Borussia Monchengladbach in their final Champions League Group D game on Tuesday

City need to win to have a chance of topping the group and, as they trail leaders Juventus by two points, they will also need a favour from Sevilla

But while that is the hope, despite twice being drawn against Barcelona after runners-up finishes, Pellegrini has played down the significance of finishing first

He said: "First of all the most important thing was to qualify

I think Chelsea, (Manchester) United and Arsenal would like to be in our position.

"But if you don't finish at the top of this group, I don't think it is disappointing because we have had to play twice against Juventus and we didn't beat them.

"If we don't win, I think we qualify but not in the way we wanted, but after that I don't think we have to be always pessimistic about the draw."

City welcome back Yaya Toure after a muscle problem but continue to be hampered by injuries

Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Fernando, Martin Demichelis, Pablo Zabaleta and Samir Nasri are all absent.

Pellegrini said: "We are going to find a very difficult team and we need to play very well if we want to win, not only because they beat Bayern Munich in their last game but because in the last two months they have been playing well and have good players."
