Mancini yet to finish spending

Tevez returned to Manchester on Sunday and has every intention of honouring his commitment to the Blues by heading to their Carrington complex even though his resolve to leave remains strong.

With a bid from Brazilian outfit Corinthians falling through earlier in the summer, Inter Milan now look like the most realistic option for Tevez.

Yet a deal with Mancini's former club appears inextricably linked to the departure of Wesley Sneijder. And on that score, Mancini insists he is not interested.

"No," he said. "It is not true.

"He is an Inter Milan player. We never spoke about him."

Instead, Mancini is looking at other targets, including Arsenal's Samir Nasri, in a bid to ensure his side are fully primed for a Premier League title challenge when the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

"We need to complete our squad," said the City chief.

"We have another 23 days until the end of the market in order to achieve the target we had at the start of pre-season."

Mancini will not be panicked into making further alterations despite yesterday's 3-2 Community Shield defeat to Manchester United at Wembley.

Although he admitted his side were fortunate to find themselves two goals up at the break, Mancini was disappointed at the way City faded once Chris Smalling struck six minutes after the restart.

A Nani brace rendered first-half efforts from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko meaningless, with Mario Balotelli a major disappointment in Tevez's absence.

"He can do his job better," acknowledged Mancini.

"It is not always possible to play well but it is important he works for the team, like the other players."

Meanwhile, Mancini believes big-money arrival Sergio Aguero needs to improve his fitness before he can be considered for first-team action after spending the entire game on the bench.

"Aguero is not ready to play," said Mancini.

"Maybe I could put him on for the last 10 minutes but it is difficult because we needed tall players for the set-pieces.

"He needs to train. He finished playing three weeks ago. Now he needs to train and recover.

"Probably he doesn't need a pre-season like the other players but just a bit more work to find his form."
