Manchester United confirm Cristiano Ronaldo agreement

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo - 12 years after one of the club's favourite sons left Old Trafford.

The deal progressed very quickly on Friday, with United making it known that they had stepped into the race to sign the Portuguese captain after he made it clear to Juventus that he wanted to leave the club.

Ronaldo will join on a likely two-year deal, for an initial fee in the region of €15m and €8m in additional add-ons. His deal is subject to a visa, international clearance and a medical.

United said in a statement: "Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

"Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

"In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

"Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester."
