The City Football Group have offered Lionel Messi a three-year deal, with the first two years to be played at Manchester City and the final year to be played at MLS side New York City.
It was revealed on Thursday night that Messi would definitely not be signing a new contract at Barcelona, with the La Liga giants pinpointing their ongoing financial issues as the reason a deal could not be concluded.
Reports soon emerged suggesting that City boss Pep Guardiola was not interested in a reunion with the Argentina international, making Paris Saint-Germain firm favourites to secure the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's signature.
Despite recently confirming the arrival of £100m Jack Grealish, the news that Guardiola wasn't interested in pursuing a deal for Messi came as something of a shock given the pair's glittering spell together at Barcelona.
And it now seems City are in fact keen to join the race to sign Messi, with Le 10 Sport reporting that the City Football Group have offered the former Barça captain a three-year contract.
Should the deal be accepted, Messi would be contracted to Manchester City for the first two years before moving to MLS with New York City - another club owned by the City Football Group - for the final year of the contract.
Naturally City will face stiff competition to sign Messi should speculation of their interest prove to be correct, with the report going on to add that PSG are keen to open talks with the recently-crowned Copa America winner in the near future.
Messi has never ruled out a move to MLS and so the promise of a year with New York City could well prove to be a decent bargaining chip, though there's also the prospect of him heading to America as early as this summer.
It's understood that MLS side Inter Miami could soon join the race to sign Messi, meaning he could be managed by Phil Neville - something we can all agree would be excellent entertainment.
