MATCH PREVIEW

Manchester City welcome West Brom to Eastlands desperate for a boost in confidence. Out-of-sorts City, who are winless in three matches in all competitions, face a testing week ahead with an FA Cup replay with Notts County interrupting their preparations ahead of a possible season-defining trip to neighbours Manchester United next Saturday.

We must stay calm because things change in football. Three weeks ago we were on top and now we are not but the season is long and other teams now have the Champions League

Roberto Mancini, Manchester City manager

Roberto Mancini's side have shipped seven goals in their last three Premier League games, almost a third of their season tally. Their defending in the 2-2 draw at Birmingham midweek angered the Italian and left him suggesting his side will be practising defending set-pieces in the build up to the game.

West Brom striker Marc-Antoine Fortune is targeting the five more wins he believes will lead the Baggies to safety. The Frenchman's late equaliser rescued a point against fellow strugglers Wigan earlier this week, yet it was just his second league goal of the season.

The 29-year-old was part of the West Brom side relegated from the Premier League two seasons ago and is desperate for the club to avoid a similar fate this time around. He admits he recently had clear-the-air talks with manager Roberto Di Matteo after a slow start to the campaign, and is looking to at least match the five league goals he scored for the club two seasons ago.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Manchester City have never lost to West Brom at Eastlands. The Baggies last win away to City was a 2-1 success at Maine Road in February 2003, with Neil Clement and Darren Moore on the scoresheet.

• City are looking to complete a first ever Premier League double over West Brom. Their last double over the Baggies came 11 years ago in the second tier.

• West Brom have won four of the nine Premier League encounters between the two sides, compared to Manchester City's three victories. However, City have won each of the last two meetings.

Will Manchester City keep a clean sheet against West Brom?

Man City

• Roberto Mancini is yet to lose a Premier League match against a side managed by a fellow Italian. He has two wins against Carlo Anceltti, one versus Roberto Di Matteo and a draw against Gianfranco Zola.

• This match is City's fourth successive league game against Midlands opposition. They conceded three times against Wolves, twice versus Birmingham and once against Aston Villa.

• Edin Džeko is seeking a first league goal for City at the fourth attempt. It took him four Bundesliga games to score for former club Wolfsburg, after which he scored 66 goals in the following 108 league games.

• If selected, Carlos Tevez will be playing on his 27th birthday. City have never lost in any of the 24 league games in which Tevez has scored; in fact they have won 22 of them.

West Brom

• If they concede against City they will equal an unwanted Premier League club record of 23 games without a clean sheet. The Baggies also have the worst defensive record in the top flight, having let in 45 goals.

• West Brom became only the fifth Premier League side to concede twice in eight successive matches in midweek, and the first since Bradford during the 2000/01 season.

• The Baggies are four points above their tally of 22 points from 24 games the last time they were in the Premier League.

• Only Black Country neighbours Wolves (four) have a worse away record than the Baggies eight points on the road this term.
