Man City keen to extend Raheem Sterling's contract after Euro 2020

Manchester City will meet with winger Raheem Sterling after Euro 2020 to discuss potentially extending his contract.

The 26-year-old has entered the final two years of his contract and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer after a frustrating season, in which Sterling recently confessed he was not always happy.

Sterling lost his place in the starting lineup towards the end of the season but was surprisingly given the nod for the Champions League final.

Despite the underlying tension, the Daily Mail claim that City are feeling calm about the situation and are ready to meet with Sterling after Euro 2020 to convince him to sign a new contract.

Pep Guardiola wants to keep Sterling around beyond the expiration of his current deal in 2023 as he believes last season was simply a dip in form for the Englishman, whose tally of ten goals in 31 games was exactly half of his return in 2019/20.

Sterling has looked like the prolific winger City want him to be this summer with England. He has bagged three goals in four games, including the opener in the Three Lions' 2-0 victory over Germany in the round of 16.

He has bagged 15 goals in his last 20 games for his country, and City are confident that Sterling can rediscover that form at club level.

However, it's not yet clear whether he would be interested in re-signing. He was recently named as part of a long list of players who would be open to leaving City if the right offer arrived, alongside the likes of Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez.

There have even been suggestions that Sterling could be used as part of a bid for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but the winger is not believed to be interested in being involved in any such negotiations.

Sterling is now representing himself in negotiations alongside two lawyers, having set up his own agency company, 16ninetytwo Sports Management, back in April.
