Macken eyes Anelka partnership

Macken, who had a knee operation during pre-season, is still on crutches after having a floating bone removed.

"I have more hunger now because I have been out and I have got something to prove," the £5 million signing from Preston told mcfc.co.uk.

"I suppose most players believe they are the best players on the park at the time and if you don't believe that you have no chance.

"With it being my first season in the Premiership I have a lot more to prove and I suppose a lot of people are wondering if I can do it at this level. My response is give me the chance and let's find out.

"I have been watching the side closely and of course the way Nicolas Anelka is playing.

"He will play most weeks for the side and he certainly deserves to because he is doing very well at the moment but I believe I can operate alongside him."

Macken is looking at the New Year to mount a challenge for a first team place.
