Kyle Walker Claims Football Return Is 'Least Important Thing' During Coronavirus Pandemic

​Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has said that despite his desire to get back out playing and complete the season, the health of the global community comes before football.

There are no planned English football fixtures until at least 30 April and with no end in sight to the coronavirus crisis, Football Association, Premier League and EFL bosses are trying to complete a contingency plan for if and when the season can resume.

All European club competitions have also been suspended indefinitely as reported cases of the virus globally near one million.

But Manchester City and England defender Walker says although the ideal scenario would be to finish the season at some point, he accepts it isn't at the forefront of minds at the present time.

If the season was to end prematurely, Liverpool would likely be denied their first title in 30 years and City would hold onto to the Premier League trophy for another summer.

Speaking as quoted by the Daily Star, Walker said: "Football has to take a step back for now, because that is the least important thing on everyones mind in the football world now. The health of family members and other peoples family members is the most important.

"I hope, and I am sure everybody else hopes, that football will come back and we will be able to finish off the season, but if it is not a possibility, then everyone does understand that people’s health is more important than a game of sport.

"It's been tough, but first and foremost, we have to think about other people's health and protecting the elderly and family members that can spread it."

Walker added that the change in routine is proving difficult and he is turning to the internet for sources of entertainment. 

He quipped: "I'm missing the banter. With the internet we can do this and talk to each other through that."
