Keegan must trim City squad

Bernstein says Keegan will have to sell to balance the books now that £20m has been spent on seven new players for next season.

"We've not put undue pressure on Kevin to sell players," Bernstein told the club's official website.

"Any squad has to be balanced and of course the manager knows that.

"Kevin and I and the board have agreed that we need to move some players, but we're not in a situation that it has to be done with any urgency.

We will wait and see what happens."

Bernstein insisted, however, that the club would not sell players at less than their full value.

"I would stress that we're not a club where there are bargains to be had."

"We have some great players. The squad is a little bigger than we would like, but if anything happens it will happen in the right way with clubs coming to us if they see players who they want."
