Keegan hails bright young things

Shaun Wright-Phillips and the fit-again Joey Barton shone in an impressive team performance by City as they secured what Keegan felt was a deserved away win.

And now the Blues chief is hoping City can earn themselves successive league wins for the first time this season when they host Aston Villa next Saturday, to be screened live on Premiership Plus.

"Shaun got man-of-the-match and I can understand that because he's now an absolutely outstanding player," Keegan told Sky Sports.

"Joey Barton ran him pretty close and I've told him if he keeps playing like that he'll go right to the top as well.

"We dominated the game and it would have been an injustice if we had not won it," he added. "It was just a question of putting our chances away.

"Their young keeper, making his debut I believe, made some fantastic saves, one of them from Robbie Fowler he'll never forget.

"It's a great result for us and now we need two wins in a row when we play Aston Villa next."
