Keegan delighted with derby victory

"I wrote on the board before the match 'show determination and show commitment and the crowd will be the 12th man,' and they responded," said Keegan.

He added: "I have been involved in some great derby matches over the years, but I will remember this one forever."

Keegan also voiced his praise for Shaun Goater whose two goals took him to 100 in City's colours, saying, "We gave Shaun a fitness test this morning and I was a bit worried because we don't want him to get a knock on his knee and miss three months.

"In the end, we decided it was worth it and that paid off. He has struck up a pretty good understanding with Nicolas Anelka. I don't think you can get two more different players. But even against the likes of Valencia and Real Madrid, United won't have a tougher time than that."
