Kalvin Phillips set for Manchester City medical

Kalvin Phillips will undergo a medical on Friday ahead of his move to Manchester City, 90min understands.

The Premier League champions agreed a £45m fee with Leeds United for the midfielder last week, and he will now return from his holidays in order to finalise his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Phillips emerged as City's top midfield target earlier in June following the departure of club legend Fernandinho. They did their due diligence on his character to ensure he would fit in with their current squad before pursuing a deal.

The 26-year-old missed a fair chunk of the 2021/22 campaign with injuries, but returned just in time to help the Whites stave off relegation.

A product of Leeds' academy, Phillips has made 234 appearances for his hometown club, with 49 coming in the top flight. England manager Gareth Southgate almost immediately called Phillips into his Three Lions squad after achieving promotion from the Championship and he was a key part of their run to the Euro 2020 final.

Back at Elland Road, Leeds are expected to sign Man City youngster Darko Gyabi as part of a separate deal in the near future.
