The former England boss guided City to ninth in the Premiership table last season after gaining promotion to the top-flight the previous year.

"I want Kevin here for the rest of his career and I hope he celebrates his 65th birthday here," Wardle told the Manchester Evening News

"All this talk about Kevin being a quitter is a load of rubbish. I don't think that side of him exists. He wants success so much that it's unbelievable.

"We have a top-class manager running the place. Who better than Kevin to bring this club the success it deserves?"
