Jermain Defoe & Yaya Toure to join Tottenham coaching setup

Jermain Defoe and Yaya Toure are set to take up permanent roles as part of the coaching staff at Tottenham's academy.

Toure has been working with the club's youngsters since December when he joined on a part-time basis, while Defoe is beginning the next stage of his career after retiring from competitive action back in March.

Both players have worked with Spurs to gain their coaching badges and now the Evening Standard note that Defoe and Toure are set to be handed permanent contracts with the academy to continue their development.

Each will be handed control of their own age group as part of a rejuvenated academy setup which has also seen former Manchester City and Anderlecht coach Simon Davies become head of academy methodology.

For Defoe, this marks an emotional return to the club with whom he spent the most famous years of career.

The former striker initially joined in 2004, enjoying moderate success before being sold to Portsmouth four years later, although he would spend just 12 months with Pompey before finding his way back to White Hart Lane.

He'd spend a further five years with the club, leaving for Toronto in February 2014 having racked up 143 goals in 362 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions.
