Ilkay Gundogan endorses Man City move for Erling Haaland

Ilkay Gundogan has admitted Erling Haaland would improve every top team in world football as Manchester City continue to be linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker.

Haaland is one of the world's top forwards following his excellent stint in the Bundesliga and is expected to leave for bigger things in the summer.

City are best placed to bring the Norway international in during the summer, though he has also been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, who are currently rebuilding under Xavi following Ronald Koeman's dismal spell at Camp Nou.

Pep Guardiola's side haven't played with a striker regularly since Sergio Aguero's heyday, but Gundogan claimed a hypothetical partnership between Haaland and City would work.

He said: "It’s a long time ago that we played with a classical striker. I think he is a player with big qualities who fits into every team.

"I think Haaland and Guardiola would work at Manchester City. Haaland has the quality for every top team."

City often play with a midfielder up front in their forward line, with the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva playing there at points this season. Haaland is a classic centre-forward who has scored 80 goals in 82 appearances for Dortmund, though he has a more direct style in comparison to City's possession-based build-up.

Guardiola has generally avoided questions regarding City's interest in Haaland, recently saying: "Right now, listen, it’s impossible that I am going to talk about some guy who is not here. He’s a Dortmund player and we’ve an incredible run ahead of us."
