Hughes' job on the line - again

According to a report in The People this morning, Mark Hughes could be sacked at the end of the season, with Roberto Mancini in the frame to replace him.

It will be a bitter blow for Hughes, who had hoped his job had been saved after guiding the team to the UEFA Cup quarter finals and could move into seventh place in the league this coming weekend, should the beat Blackburn at home and Fulham and West Ham both lose.

If Hughes is sacked, the City hierarchy will want to install a new man at the helm quickly and will turn to Mancini who was sacked by Inter Milan last in March 2008 following a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool. Domestically, Mancini held an exemplary record at Inter, winning three successive Serie A titles and four cups, which made him the most successful manager of the Italian club sine the 1970's.

City fans will know of Mancini's links to City; his son Filippo was on loan at the Academy last year. Should he be offered the job, he will be the fourth man to take charge since Kevin Keegan resigned in 2005.
