Hughes going for Tevez

Manchester City are rumoured to be in the hunt to sign Carlos Tevez from Manchester United. The Argentine scored in Sunday's derby but has already decided that his future lies away from Old Trafford.

But City face stiff competition in the face of Chelsea and Real Madrid for his services, while Tottenham have also entered the race for his signature.

Tevez scored United's second goal in their 2-0 win and could have had a hat-trick but was denied twice by the woodwork. Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a lucky first, was substituted in the 58th minute, causing him to spit his dummy out in protest. The Portuguese winger was clearly upset at not being given the opportunity to complete his red card hat-trick and will probably not get another chance once he finally makes his summer move to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Mark Hughes' position as City manager is not under threat today following his teams defeat. It has become customary to link several names to the manager's position when City have suffered lost a game but the alarming statistic is that no-one has been linked to the club in over a week. If this trend continues, City fans will start believing that there is finally some stability at the club. Or maybe they have just ran out of names who could take over.
