The thirty-one-year old defender says that negotiations over his contract will open soon: "I have eighteen months left on my contract and normally this would be about the time when negotiations on a new deal would begin," Howey told the clubs official website.

"I accept that these are perhaps not normal times as far as football is concerned what with the financial crisis that seems to be affecting clubs in the Nationwide League and the advent of the transfer window but hopefully something will be mentioned soon."

"There is nothing I would like better than to see out the rest of my career with Manchester City. They are only the second club I have played for and I am enjoying every minute. Hopefully that is reflected in the way I have been playing.

"There is nothing I can do about getting a new deal except show that I am worth it out on the pitch. I feel as fit as I have been at any stage in my career, I am very happy in my work and I want to stay."

"My family is well settled in Manchester and the club is going in the right direction and getting better all the time so why would anyone want to leave?"

"Talk of new players coming in doesn't bother me because there is nothing I can do about it."
