How Can Anyone Doubt Nani's Red Card?

A night that began with the shock of Wayne Rooney's omission, ended in bitter frustration for Sir Alex Ferguson as Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo sent Real Madrid into the last eight.

At the time, United were leading through Sergio Ramos' own-goal and 2-1 up in the tie.

Even former United skipper Roy Keane admitted the Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir got it right producing a red card: "He couldn't do anything else. It was a red card, as simple as that."

Rio Ferdinand was lucky not to follow him for applauding sarcastically in the referee's face at the end of the match.

The facts are there - United missed Rooney, and Ferguson's decision to drop him was a massive mistake.
