The Northern Ireland international midfielder has been a near ever-present in the squad since signing for £1.5million from SwindonTown in 1997.

"Kevin is one of those players who has not let anyone down and that is why he has got a new deal. The ones who have let us down or who are not good enough have not been offered new contracts," Keegan told the club's official website.

"Kevin has been offered a new deal and he is about to sign it which we are delighted with. It will keep him here for the rest of the season and another two years which will take him to the age of thirty two."

"I honestly believe he will still be competing for a place or be in the team. He is great to have around the place and is a great professional. All he has to do is wait for his opportunity."

"Kevin has done very well and he has got his reward now. He likes it in Manchester and he likes this club so we have another two and half years of him and I am delighted."
