Newcastle have asked the Football Association to withdraw Andy Carroll from England's friendly against France at Wembley, BBC Sport understands.Striker Carroll, 21, is set to make his international debut - but his club are worried about the groin injury he picked up against Fulham on Saturday.
Carroll had a scan before training with England on Tuesday, after which manager Fabio Capello declared he was fit.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart is out with a back injury, so Ben Foster should start.
