Harry Redknapp issues wake up call to Roman Pavlyuchenko

Last updated : 23 September 2011 By Daily Mail

Pavlyuchenko has slipped further down the pecking order following Adebayor's arrival and his first-team cause wasn't helped by a poor performance in the Carling Cup clash with Stoke.

The Tottenham boss has made it clear who his favoured partnership up front is and has warned the Russia international that Rafael van der Vaart's form is hard to ignore.

Off target: Pavlyuchenko was poor against Stoke in midweek

Redknapp said: 'There's a good understanding developing between Adebayor and Jermain,' said the Spurs boss.

'Those two are going well. Rafa plays off the main striker as well, so there is competition there for a place.

'Pav? Hopefully he will come to life.

Winning formula: Adebayor and Defoe have hit it off straight away

'Adebayor and Defoe have got fantastic ability, Van Der Vaart is top class. Pav - when he is up for it - can play, but Adebayor has got three goals (in two games for Tottenham sincejoining on loan from Manchester City).

'What a great start for him. It couldn't have gone better. We just got to keep him (Ade) at it and keep him right.

'We've got to keep that fantastic smile on his face.'
