Harry Kane set to miss the start of the Premier League season

Harry Kane won't feature in Tottenham Hotspur's clash with Manchester City on the opening day of the Premier League season, as he's expected to be working on his fitness after missing the majority of pre-season.

The 28-year-old starred in all of England's Euro 2020 matches this summer, helping the Three Lions reach the final, where they suffered penalty shootout heartbreak at the hands of Italy.

The clinical forward has subsequently jetted off for a well-earned break with his family, and will return back to the fold towards the end of Tottenham's preparations for the start of the new campaign, The Telegraph reports.

He, along with several other players, will be granted some time to get back up to speed upon his arrival, meaning he is unlikely to feature in the opening game of the season - whether it be for Spurs or Man City.

A summer of speculation has followed Kane throughout Euro 2020 after he admitted in an interview with Gary Neville that he needs to discuss his Spurs future with chairman Daniel Levy in his pursuit for trophies.

Spurs' embarrassing managerial hunt and eventual appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo will have done little to change his mind over a possible transfer, with the north London side still picking up the pieces from Jose Mourinho's disastrous tenure.

The club which has been most heavily-linked with a move for the England captain is Premier League champions Man City and they are confident they can secure his services in a deal that would likely be north of £100m.

Kane is desperate to win silverware in his career, both as an individual and as part of a team, and he'd prefer to stay in England to do so, making the Etihad Stadium the best possible destination for his ambitions.

He is already on the road to becoming England's top scorer, while he'll also have an eye on Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League record.

When the fixture list was drawn, many thought Kane's first match would be against his boyhood team with Man City, but this latest news means we will not be seeing the forward in either jersey for the season opener.
