Harry Kane has claimed he handled the summer speculation over his club future well, despite his poor start to the season.
Talk over a move from Tottenham to Manchester City was rife earlier this year, particularly while Kane was playing at Euro 2020 with England. However, the Premier League champions failed to reach Spurs' valuation and a deal was never done.
Kane was left out of the season opener between the two clubs sides - one of Nuno Espirito Santo's rare good days in charge as Tottenham won 1-0 - but has since been reintegrated to the team, though his tally of one Premier League goal so far this term has been cause for concern.
Speaking before England's World Cup qualifier against Albania on Friday, Kane said of the speculation: “There was a lot of talk over the summer. It is the first time in my career that has happened. That is part of being a big player, dealing with those situations and I think I dealt with it well.”
On his current form, he added: “I think from my point of view it’s easy for people to look for an excuse when you are not on form or scoring as many as usual.
“I have my own self belief and working harder is always my approach when doing well or the goals are not coming. I’ve done that my whole career.”
Nuno has since been ditched, with Antonio Conte brought in as the Portuguese's replacement after a dismal run of performances culminated in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
England captain Kane rarely spoke to the media during Nuno's time at the club but appeared enthused by Conte's recent appointment, stating: “It shows great ambition, to be honest. His résumé speaks for itself.
"Everyone knows how highly thought of he is and what he has done as a manager in the game. You have to respect that. We have a manager and a club that believe in us and this appointment definitely shows that."
