Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane has defended his brother’s role as his agent following his failed attempt to leave Spurs during the summer and has vowed to keep him on.
Kane, who became frustrated by Tottenham’s lack of competitiveness towards the end of last season, has been represented by his older brother Charlie’s CK66 agency since 2018.
Charlie has been on the receiving of considerable criticism in recent months because of how the transfer saga, which had the potential to see the England captain join Manchester City if successful, was handled. Some of the backlash towards the agent also turned personal.
“In the summer, there was a lot of stuff about my brother being my agent. That’s where we stick together. I know what he does for me as an agent, I know what he does for me as a brother and that’s all that matters,” Kane is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
“The rest of it is just noise from our point of view. It’s just about us sticking together and whatever the circumstance, always being there for each other and that’s what we’ll continue to do.
“Whenever there is stuff being written about your family, it’s always maybe a little bit difficult to take, especially when it’s stuff that’s negative. But I think that’s when families really come together during those moments.”
Kane has struggled for form since returning to action for Tottenham this season. The three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner sat out the first game of the Premier League campaign while his future was still uncertain and didn’t make his first start until the end of August.
He has since played 90 minutes in every subsequent Premier League game, yet his only league goal came in a narrow victory over Newcastle last month. At the same stage of last season, Kane had scored eight Premier League goals on his way to a final tally of 23.
