Gareth Barry awarded Englands 2000th goal

The FA had already awarded the 22nd minute goal - the 2,000th England have scored since they began playing internationals in 1872 - to the Manchester City midfielder.?? ?

Barry's header took a deflection off the head of Sweden defender Daniel Majstorovic leaving some organisations giving the goal to Barry and others to the Swede.

But Barry has now been confirmed as the official scorer of England's winning goal after receiving the report of Czech referee Pavel Kralovec.

An FA spokesman: 'We have now received the referee's report and he has stated Gareth Barry as the scorer, so he is awarded the goal officially.'

As well as recording their 2,000th goal since playing their first international in 1872, England's 1-0 win was also their first over Sweden in 43 years.

The Wembley scoreboard displayed Barry's name as the scorer for the rest of the match but England manager Fabio Capello said he was not concerned with who scored the landmark goal.????

'It is just statistics, for me it is notimportant. It might be important in 10 years who scored the 2000th goal, but not now,' said the Italian.???
