While the template for the return of FPL is looking strong, now is absolutely the right time to start mixing things up.
A couple of low-owned players on the fringes of our squads can provide a vital boost to overall rank if they stumble upon big points. So who are the names to consider?
Kyle Walker vs Leeds United (A)
Manchester City assets are back on the radar, not least because they have two double gameweeks in the next eight. There’s never been a better time to triple up on their assets and the defence is highly investable having kept six clean sheets so far and conceded the fewest number of shots on their goal.
Many managers will be looking to Joao Cancelo, but Kyle Walker could be a viable alternative now that he’s back fit. I had the pleasure of owning him over the early weeks of the season, where he was part of the defence which kept three clean sheets in six games. He’s still Pep Guardiola’s first choice right-back and comes in at an excellent price.
Dejan Kulusevski vs Brentford (A)
The Spurs attack should be an important focus point for the restart with some favourable fixtures to start (Brentford, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace) followed by a double gameweek. With Richarlison sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Dejan Kulusevski should be nailed on for minutes in the immediate period.
He’s well rested after not being involved in the World Cup and he has been clinically consistent with fantasy returns since arriving in the Premier League in January. He has six goals and ten assists, almost averaging an attacking return per appearance. He delivered consecutive assists in the final two games before the break.
Anthony Martial vs Nottingham Forest (H)
Manchester United assets have to be back on the radar, with hope for a harmonious future at the club with Cristiano Ronaldo now out of the door and all the negativity which surrounded him gone. This should pave the way for consistent minutes for Martial if he can stay fit.
It’s been a tough season so far for him fitness-wise after being one of the best performers of pre-season, but he’s still managed two goals and two assists from just 200 minutes. The fixtures couldn’t be better over the next three so it’s the right time to take a gamble, especially given that he costs just £6.7m.
