The City winger, who has also been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award today, suffered a knee injury in the win at Norwich at the end of February and was expected to be out for the season.

But after successful surgery, he started running last week and is in line to be named in City's squad for the trip to Fulham.

"Shaun will return to the squad on Saturday if he has no setbacks in the next two days," boss Stuart Pearce told the official City website.

"We are delighted with his progress and look forward to welcoming him back."

Pearce can also welcome back Ben Thatcher and Steve McManaman after they came through the reserves' 5-0 win over Newcastle on Tuesday night.

SWP is up against Arjen Robben, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Stewart Downing for the PFA award. He was runner-up to Chelsea’s forgotten man Scott Parker last season.
